Federal Government has approved the construction of two purpose-built flyovers in Nasarawa State.
The projects to be sited in Karu local government area, a gateway local council to the nation’s capital, Abuja, are to commence soon after contractual engagements.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (Public Affairs), Hon. Peter Ahemba, made this known during a bimonthly press briefing in Lafia.
The approval was granted following a request by Governor Abdullahi Sule to the Federal Government through the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi.
Ahemba said the flyovers would be strategically located at areas of need after due assessment and recommendation by the Nasarawa State Government.
He added that it would improve geographical aesthetics, enhance economic development, commercial viability and proffer remedial measures to the long-standing traffic management challenges in the area.
On the completion of Akwanga and Keffi flyovers, the SSA said Akwanga flyover would be completed before the end of the year, revealing that Keffi flyover has reached an advanced stage of completion.
He explained that availability of funds for the projects has eased the pace of construction, believing that it would be completed ahead of scheduled time of completion.
Speaking on the alleged defiance of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s directive to his appointees on premature campaigns, the governor’s aide maintained that no government appointee has publicly declared his intention to contest for any elective office, adding that government was serious in its riot act which had led to the termination of appointment of one of its aides, Ahmed Sarki, who was alleged to have involved himself in an open political alliance with a governorship aspirant in the state.
He called on politicians to restrain from premature politicking as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to lift its ban political activities, pledging to support the electoral umpire to take punitive action against defaulters.
This is good news to the people of Nasarawa State.
