Authorities of Lafia Local Government of Nasarawa State have imposed a restriction on private and commercial motorcycles from 6pm to 6am in the metropolis.
Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, made this known to Nasarawa Newsline during a phone conversation, noting that the action is aimed at forestalling further security breach in the local government.
Recently, there has been a spate of insecurity in the city centre especially at night which heightens tension and palpable fears on the minds of residents.
Maifata said the Council has approved the dusk-to-dawn restriction order to take immediate effect from today (Monday), stressing that security situation will be reviewed subsequently.
He added that the development was part of the outcome of an emergency security meeting he held with critical stakeholders including heads of security formations towards finding lasting solution to the Council’s security issue in recent time.
He noted that tricycle operators are to cease operations from 8pm to 6am accordingly.
According to Maifata, the co-operation of residents of the local government is necessary to ensure an enabling environment free from security challenges for the well-being of the citizenry.
He warned that anyone caught to have breached the restriction order would face the full wrath of the law.
