The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has arrested two suspected human traffickers in Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa State.
The arrest was made on Thursday following an intelligence report from the area over human trafficking activities.
Briefing journalists on the breakthrough, State Commandant of NAPTIP, Hajiya Sa’adatu Galadima said that upon gathering the intelligence, the Agency swiftly mobilized its officials and swung to action to arrest the situation.
Galadima said the victim, Rashida (surname withheld), aged 22, was lured by the traffickers after promising her juicy opportunities to be paid in foreign currency in Abuja and Malaysia.
The traffickers (name withheld) aged 26 and 27 were arrested in Akwanga at a company named Quest International Company in a bid to traffick their victim to the promised destination.
The NAPTIP Commandant called on parents not to fail in educating their children on the ills of trafficking, adding that the Agency will enhance sensitization of the public in order not to fall prey of the punishable crime.
She maintained that traffickers will not be allowed to have a field day in the state, insisting that government passed the Violence Against Persons Prohibition law which does not give room for human trafficking and punishable if found culpable.
She commended the synergy that exists between the Agency and other security agencies in the state, noting that their collaboration has led to monumental strides in curbing trafficking in the state.
