Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Peace Corps joined its counterparts nationwide for the 1st 3-day retreat and leadership training course for principal officers of the Corps.
The course themed ‘Navigating leadership challenges through resilience and flexibility in a command and control setting’ held from 4th-6th April, 2024 across the nation.
Delivering his address, the National Commandant of the Corps, Dr. Dickson Akoh, called on the government to accelerate the passage of the Nigeria Peace Corps Bill and its assent by President Bola Tinubu to curb the myriad of security challenges in the nation.
Dr. Akoh said it was important to review the National Youth Policy to ensure that more youths were engaged in meaningful ventures that will provide them with opportunities to assist in tackling security issues.
He charged President Tinubu not to hesitate in assenting to the bill, adding that it will address social problems and enhance community development.
Dignitaries at the event including the Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim and Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Zaphaniah Jisalo cautioned youths in the country against using the nation’s economic and security problems as a justification to becoming criminals, maintaining that insecurity is a global phenomenon not peculiar to Nigeria.
Speaking after the 3-day leadership training course, State Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Mr. Bala Joshua, said it was a welcome development to enlighten principal officers on contemporary leadership strategies and skills in addressing the challenges observed.
Joshua challenged the operatives of the command to be up and running in putting the knowledge gained into good use to add more expertise and experience to their skills in managing neighbourhood security.
He assured them of the command’s readiness to support them at all times with retreats and seminars to broaden their horizons on contemporary developments.
Over 150 principal officers of the command across the state’s thirteen local government areas attended the training course.
