Commissioner of Lands and Urban Development in Nasarawa State, Umar Tanko Tunga has pledged to strengthen lands administration in the state through robust planning and effective urbanisation.
Tunga disclosed this during a brief handover ceremony at the ministry as he assumed office, Monday, in Lafia.
He said the state’s masterplan is important to guide development activities, noting that it would be one of his achievements to develop a strategic masterplan for the state.
He commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for reposing confidence in him to serve in a key ministry, describing the ministry as a revenue-generating hub.
He called on the staff and management of the ministry to support government in its drive to improve the state’s fortunes, appreciating critical stakeholders for their show of solidarity.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Khalid Adamu Ibrahim, while welcoming the new commissioner, assured him of collaboration to succeed, stressing that the ministry has a revenue target which calls for collaborative effort.
He said the provision of a new masterplan is crucial in an urban area, decrying that over a decade, the state is yet to develop a new masterplan.
In a goodwill message, former Chairman of Awe Local Government, Musa Saidu reaffirmed their commitment towards giving the new commissioner and government maximum cooperation to excel in their constitutional responsibilities.
Nasarawa Newsline’s correspondent reports that the handover ceremony featured the presentation of an official handover document from the Permanent Secretary to the Commissioner witnessed by ministry’s management, staff, family members, friends and well-wishers.
