Sign-out ban: Rector appeals for understanding, calm

The Management of Isa Mustapha Agwai l Polytechnic Lafia has observed with deep concern the worries of its graduating students over the ban placed on the forthcoming sign-out celebration of students from the institution.

Rector, Assoc. Prof. Nurudeen Mu’azu Maifata, today, held an interactive meeting with the President and officials of the Students Union Government (SUG) of the institution.

During the meeting, the SUG proposed for the softening of the ban on the celebration to enable the students celebrate their graduation.

Maifata, in his compassionate posture, said their graduation is worth celebration, however, appealed that the measure taken by the Management was for the betterment of the students, staff and the institution in general.

He noted that security concerns have been emerging from around, maintaining that the safety and security of the students are of great concern to the institution.

He recalled ugly situations that triggered violence and public uproar from some institutions in recent times, adding that the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) and other institutions in the state have currently placed same ban on sign-out celebration with a view to containing ugly events.

Maifata appealed for calm and understanding, maintaining that students can peacefully engage themselves through friendly means that do not involve security threats.

In a remark, SUG President of the institution, Comr. David Taimako appreciated the Management for its continued concern, pledging to plead with the students for calm and understanding in order to sustain the friendly atmosphere being enjoyed in the Polytechnic.
